One of three recovered glass bottles containing neatsfoot oil. Neatsfoot oil was used to soften and preserve leather, particularly saddles and other horse tack, and as a preserving agent for oil based paint brushes. In the 18th century, it was also used medicinally as a topical application for dry scaly skin conditions.
