Asset Overview

A faering is a type of scandinavian boat with two pairs of oars, which are still in use today. The Gokstad faering was the smaller of the two boats included in the burial goods of the individual buried on the famed Gokstad ship. The Gokstad ship burial is a 9th-century Norwegian ship burial excavated in 1880, and is one of the most impressive Viking-era ship burials known. The ship and the two boats buried with it are incredibly well preserved, and the heavily restored ships can be seen at the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo. Length: 6.5m Beam: 1.3m
