Asset Overview

Govan 2 (in both Stirling Maxwell's and ECMS numbering; Lang 1) is one of the smallest of Govan's five hogbacks and is the best preserved. James Lang and Richard Bailey have suggested that the form of the monument and decorative motifs along the bottom edge indicate influences from Cumbria or further afield (both in Govan and Its Early Medieval Sculpture, ISBN: 9780750907170). Above the two rows of tegulation, the 3D analysis has shown what appears to be a row of step pattern along its worn ridge. This 3D model was created as part of Dr Megan Kasten’s PhD, made available here: http://theses.gla.ac.uk/74266/. The 3D model was created with SfM photogrammetry, using Agisoft Metashape, and edited with Zbrush. While the download of this 3D model is free, if you are able please consider supporting the Govan Stones by donating to the [Govan Stones Appeal.](https://tghts.enthuse.com/profile)
