Asset Overview

Govan 3 ([Stirling Maxwell's numbering](https://archive.org/details/sculpturedstone00maxwgoog); ECMS Govan 12; Lang 3) is one of Govan's five hogbacks. While it was likely originally carved in the 10th century AD, it is one of two hogbacks that were recut at a later date to resemble a single beast. This is also one of the three that are concave on the underside - this was captured with phone photos due to space restrictions. The white spaces underneath the hogback are not 'real' - they are holes in the data that were filled in with Zbrush software. It is uncertain why this was done, as the largest of the hogbacks (Govan 5) was not hollowed out to the same extent. This model was created as part of Dr Megan Kasten’s PhD, made available here: http://theses.gla.ac.uk/74266/. Created with Agisoft Metashape, edited in Zbrush. While the download of this 3D model is free, if you are able, please consider supporting the Govan Stones by donating to [the Govan Stones Appeal](https://tghts.enthuse.com/profile).
