Asset Overview

Female clayidol with baby, so-called Phi-type, Mycenae (14th - 13th century B.C.E.), height approx. 11 cm, replica (Archaeological Museum of Ancient Mycenae). In prehistory and early history, idols are all abstract figures that can be assumed to have a cultic meaning. In contrast to the Phi-type [Φ] (praying hand posture) the so-called Psi-type [Ψ] is found with raised arms in the appearance gesture.
