A gunflint: these were mass produced in their thousands during the 18th and 19th centuries. The gunflint was used to strike the steel plate of a rifle to create a spark which would ignite the gunpowder and fire the projectile.
Recovered from the wreck of the East India Company ship *Earl of Abergavenny*, lost in Weymouth Bay in 1805.
