Asset Overview
A gypsum panel from Sennacherib's South West Palace, Room XIV (K) panels 4-6 Nineveh. Dating to 700 - 629 BC.
Gypsum wall panel relief: these Assyrian soldiers leading horses to the left, from the same scene as wall panels 1851,0902.17 (BM. 124786) and 1851,0902.21 (BM. 124784), formed part of the train of the Assyrian king, who was probably represented in much the same way as in the Lachish sculptures. Note the decorated and fringed saddle-cloths. The relation of the hair, neck, and shoulder of the left arm, which is pulled backwards, is clumsily rendered.
