Hadriantinous

Rendition of a "Hadriantinous," a combination of a half of both Antinous and his lover the Roman Emperor Hadrian's face. With this couple perhaps being the most visible homosexual couple from antiquity, I wanted this model to serve as a visual analysis of their relationship. In my mind it emphasizes the intense power dynamics that had to have been at play in their relationship, regardless of whether or not they believed themselves to be happy; the jarring segments of modern reconstruction, necessitated by Meshmixer's editing tools, also serve as poignant reminders that, like their physical images, the two men could not possibly have matched up symmetrically and perfectly, since one of them clearly had power--of life and death, if he wished-- over the other.
