During 1833 - 1936, the great Tenpo famine occured around Edo city (Edo city is Tokyo city at present).
Hanbe Shimoda who is village head of this area build this warehouse for his village inhabitant using his own funds.
His good dead is described in Yorodenpi (A ston inscription).
