Asset Overview
This historic ceramic pitcher was discovered during excavations in honor Michigan State University's sesquicentennial celebration. The pitcher has a relatively simple form with the only embelishment occuring on the handle, indicating that it's function is more utilitarian than it is decorative.
The pitcher was found in an area where Michigan State University's first dorm, Saints' Rest, was erected. Built in 1856, Saint's Rest acted as the primary dorm on campus until Williams Hall was built in 1871. Unfortunately, Saints' Rest caught fire and burnt down during the winter of 1876. Based on this date, we know that the pitcher is at least 142 years old.
