Asset Overview

Hoga Ness, Unst, Shetland Isles, Scotland. This broch lies at the south western corner of Unst overlooking Bluemull Sound and over to Yell less than a kilometer away. The broch itself is badly ruined although the defensive banks and ditches survive quite nicely. A later single cell stone structure, probably a small house partially overlies the edge of the broch mound. In simplistic terms a broch is a stone tower built in the Iron Age, most brochs were occupied 2000 years ago. The best surviving example is 13 metres tall (Mousa, Shetland Isles), most brochs were probably never this tall. This model was created from a combination of vertical and oblique kite aerial photographs. Scale: 1 Metre, red points to north. Grid Reference: HP 557005 Photographed: 17 September 2015 Model Built: 12 November 2015 Model created using Agisoft Photoscan
