Notes: RLA catalog no. 1979rp34 (cast). Cranial vault, or calotte. Type specimen fossil for Neanderthal, known as Neanderthal 1. Discovered in 1856 and reported in 1857 by Johann Carl Fuhlrott and Hermann Schaaffhausen. Cast made by the University Museum of the University of Pennsylvania.
