Hunley was the first submarine to sink an enemy ship, at the Charleston site, she sank the Housatonic, although in her three previous dives, she sank, killing her crew, due to a construction defect, on February 17, 1864, she attacked and sank the Housatonic, but apparently was hit by the shock wave of the explosive, and the entire crew died without moving from their place, in short, he only killed five enemy, and about thirty of his own sailors, including Hunley himself
