Per the museum label: 'This funerary vase would have stood above a grave. Libations for the deceased were poured into the vase. The central scene depicts a shrine with two women, possibly a mother and daughter, surrounded by objects of everyday life and attended by a servant holding a fan. Four mourners carrying offerings to the deceased are outside the shrine.
