Asset Overview

Inwu (udm. "Heavenly moisture") is an epithet of the supreme deity in the traditional beliefs of the Udmurts. The word Inwu is an epithet of the supreme deity who grants favorable weather for agricultural labor. The meaning of the name Invu is transparent - it comes from the Udmurt words In "sky" and Wu "moisture, water", and is translated as "Heavenly moisture". In the traditional beliefs of the Udmurts, there is the so-called "Chant of the search for Invu" (Udm. Invu utchan gur). This prayer was performed in a solemn atmosphere accompanied by playing the harp. She was supposed to call on God's grace, materializing in the form of rain that passed during the period or immediately after the prayer.
