3D model of the Johannes Gutenberg monument in the First District of Vienna. The monument consists of a stepped granite pedestal, above which is a base with reliefs of the allegory of the dawn "post nubila phoebus" (after the clouds comes the sun), branches, a column and a letterpress coat of arms. Above it is the larger-than-life statue of Johannes Gutenberg. The pedestal is by Max Fabiani, the figure by Hans Bitterlich. The monument was unveiled on December 17, 1900.
Johannes Gensfleisch, called Gutenberg (c. 1400-1468), is considered the inventor of modern letterpress printing and the printing press. In 1997, Gutenberg's letterpress printing was voted the most important invention of the second millennium by the U.S. magazine Time-Life.
