Asset Overview

In 1918, the Szymanowski family lost their manor in Tymoshivka (present-day Ukraine). Since then, composer Karol Szymanowski lived in hotels and in boarding houses, as well as shared accommodation with his relatives. Between 1930 and 1935, he resided in the "Atma" Villa, a fully furnished house rented in Zakopane, Poland. Two armchairs made by the "Ład" Artist Cooperative are the only pieces of furniture to have ever been bought by Szymanowski to furnish the villa. Today, both armchairs are part of the villa’s interior again; they are on display in the studio of the Karol Szymanowski Museum in the “Atma” Villa in Zakopane. **For more images and further information, visit:** https://muzea.malopolska.pl/en/objects-list/168 Inventory number: MNK X-AT-100/2 Localisation of the physical object: National Museum in Kraków / Karol Szymanowski Museum in Zakopane, Poland **Digitalisation: Regional Digitalisation Lab, Małopolska Institute of Culture in Kraków, Poland; “Virtual Museums of Małopolska” project**
