Asset Overview

This is an ancestral unilaterally barbed fish spear from Katmai National Park and Preserve on the Alaska Peninsula. Ancestral Alutiit used these spears to harvest fish in rivers, lakes, and the ocean. The hole in it is where a long, leather line likely attached this spearhead to a shaft. When speared into a fish, the spearhead would release from the shaft and stay in the fish allowing the fisher to pull in their catch. About 12 cm in length.
