Asset Overview
The knife is made of steel and fitted into a yew inlaid handle. It is known as a shepherd’s or robber’s knife. This is one of sixteen memorabilia belonging to Jan Krzeptowski Sabala (1809–1894) – a musician, a storyteller and a hunter – preserved in the collection of the Tatra Museum. It was purchased for the collection in 1906 from Kazimierz Brzozowski – a painter, graphic artist, mountaineer and skier. Earlier, Brzozowski purchased the knife from Jan Pęksa, who claimed that the owner of the item had been Sabała.
