Asset Overview

This lamp charger rack is one of the permanent collections at Nederlands Mijnmuseum, from the brand the Oldham and Son, Manchester (England). The apperance of battery lamps since 1930s had largely diminished the risk brought by oil lamps and soon became popular among miners. The battery lamps were recharged everyday after miners’ shift on a charger rack like this. To go to the lamp charger rack is part of miners' daily routine - they took out the lamp to work at the beginning of the shift and put them back to charge as one of the last steps when finishing a shift. This charger rack has three shelves and nice charging spaces per shelf, providing 27 charging spaces in total. Location: [Nederlands Mijnmuseum](https://www.nederlandsmijnmuseum.nl/), Heerlen. Dating: 1950s - mid 1960s. Setting: Canon EOS 80D, f/3.5-5.6, EF135mm, focal length 18mm Created by: Su Chin Zhang
