Asset Overview

Mould-made pottery lamp with a rounded-tipped nozzle with shoulder-volutes, a rounded shoulder decorated with impressed ovules, and an inward-sloping moulded rim. At the rear is a broken ring-handle. Between the nozzle volutes is an air-hole. The discus is decorated with two gladiators, a samnite and a hoplomachus, fighting. Below them is the inscription "ACVVIVS.V HERMEROSS." GIVING their names, Acuvius and Hermeros. In the centre of the slightly raised base is a foot-print with traces of relief letters. Covered with a finger-marked orange-brown slip.
