Asset Overview

Pallasboy-Logls The Lee's Island 5 logboat is an early Iron Age log boat wich was recorded by Ireland's National Monuments Service's Underwater Archaeology Unit: An early Iron Age socketed and looped iron axe was found still in its gracile carved, two-piece handle, was deliberately fixed into position under a seat in the Lees Island 5 log boat dated by c14 to 754-409 BCE, or over 2,400 years ago; discovered several metres underwater in Lough Corrib, Co Galway Ireland. An astonishing and incredibly rare find, and brilliant work by the Underwater Archaeology Unit. This carving was created for the Pallasboy Project details of which can be found here [here](https://thepallasboyvessel.wordpress.com/2018/11/12/the-pallasboy-project-phase-3-prehistoric-water-craft/) For more details see Karl Brady's (2014) 'Secrets of the lake: The Lough Corrib Logboats' published in Archaeology Ireland no.110, pp 34-38
