Asset Overview

One of several hand-carved bone mahjong tiles recovered from the lot where Dudley’s Tavern was once located. Founded in 1768 in the town of Halifax, North Carolina, Dudley's Tavern was frequented by residents and travelers alike, providing food, shelter, and entertainment, and even supplied meals to prisoners in the jail next door. Halifax was the meeting place for the Fourth Provincial Congress, and the Tavern is said to have hosted judges, legislators, and others that were integral to the foundation of the state of North Carolina. It measures 29.5 mm long, 21.1 mm wide, and 4.5 mm thick. This model was constructed by David Cranford with 66 photos using Agisoft Metashape software. (Credit: NCDNCR/OSA)
