Asset Overview
From the Los Angeles Herald, 12 Feb 1896:
"This afternoon Mrs. Frank Reed and her 10-year-old daughter, Mary, were on the rocks near Lighthouse Point gathering shells. When they started to return to the cliff drive the girl dropped some shells and started to pick them up when a wave washed her from the rocks. The mother, frantic with fright as she saw the child disappear, ran to save her and was herself washed off. When she arose to the surface the girl had disappeared and Mrs. Reed, after a hard struggle, managed to reach the rock. Tho girl's body has not been recovered, although men are looking for it. Mrs. Reed and family, who are from Fresno, have been camping near the river for several weeks."

I was unable to learn whether Mary's body was ever recovered from the sea.
