A megalodon tooth from a Carcharocles auriculatus, a large species of extinct shark from the Eocene Period which is part of the Natural History Society of Maryland’s fossil collection. This tooth likely dates from approximately 54 million years ago. The prominent diagnostic characteristic of this tooth is the moderate sized serrated cusps flanking the tooth.
