Asset Overview

The money bag was found in the water reservoir of Notvik Tower, Bomarsund, during the excavations. In 1854 Notvik Tower was attacked by British forces. Apparently, before the Russians surrendered, they threw away things to the cistern. More about the subject can be read in the article “Russian military equipment sealed since 1854 in the cistern of Notvik tower, Bomarsund, Åland islands” by Milton Nunez & Steffan Darmark in Finskt museum 1989. The money bag is sewn of linen cloth with linen thread. Mera om ämnet i Milton Nunez & Steffan Darmarks artikel “Russian military equipment sealed since 1854 in the cistern of Notvik tower, Bomarsund, Åland islands” i tidskriften Finskt museum år 1989. Penningsbörsen är sydd av linneläft med lintråd. (ID ÅM 540:81)
