Mount Nebo in Jordan. This is the mountain spoken of in the Bible that Moses climbed to look over the Promised Land of Israel before he died and was buried in the mountain valley by God in Deuteronomy 34.
2nd Maccabees 2 also tell that this mountain is the hidden resting place of the Ark of the Covenant and the Tabernacle, placed there and sealed by the prophet Jeremiah just prior to the fall of Jerusalem by the Babylonians in 586 BC.
The moutain remains one of archaeological interest. On top of the mountain are the remains of a Byzantine church and monastery which were discovered in 1933. The Moses memorial may be seen on top of the hill today, which overlooks the Jordan River valley and the traditional site of the baptism of Jesus at Bethany Beyond the Jordan. -Nate Loper
