This model represents an archaeological site in Mt. Pleasant, Maryland, U.S. The site is the lower structure of a 19th century era "privvy" or commonly known today as an outhouse. This is an important archeaological feature, as not only were privvies used for going to the restroom, but also served as a place to dispose of everyday items. These items, once found by an archaeologist, can be used to better understand how the people of the residence lived during the time period the privvy was in use.
