Musa Molo's drum/ Tambour de Musa Molo

Drum belonging to Musa Molo Balde (ca.1846-1931), king of Fulaadu, kept in Paroumba (Kolda Region, Senegal). Depending on the rhythm and pitch, its beating could announce important meetings, wars, calls for help, funerals; it was also taken into battle to energise the troops. It was in fact after the Paroumba battle against the ruler of Pakis-Kankelefa in 1894 that the drum was left in Paroumba. Thank you to the Balde family of Kalifou Daba for making it accesible for digitising. Tambour appartenant à Musa Molo Balde (ca. 1846-1931), roi du Fulaadu, conservé à Paroumba (région de Kolda, Sénégal). Selon le rythme et tonalité, son battement pouvait annoncer réunions importantes, guerres, appels à l'aide, funérailles; il été également battu dans la bataille pour galvaniser les troupes. C'est en fait après la bataille de Paroumba contre le roi de Pakis-Kankelefa en 1894 que le tambour a été laissé à Paroumba.
