Asset Overview

Late Bronze Age sword (NMI W93) with combat damage from the National Museum of Ireland. Data captured with permission from the National Museum of Ireland. Model photographed by Barry Molloy and crafted by Mariusz Wisniewski. The damage on this sword has been annotated using primary artefact analysis and macrophotography. Most of this is visible in the medium resolution (a higher resolution version has also been generated) 3D model version presented here on Sketchfab. Not all damage has been annotated, but the focus has been on describing the damage visible in this model. Smaller nocks (tiny indentations into the blade edge) are not marked up here. The patina is unbroken on these instances of damage, which along with other diagnostics assessed during this research, indicate that most of the damage is ancient. The circumstances of its discovery are unclear as it is an old find. Many of the characteristic forms of damage on bladed edges are evident, hence it is a good representative model.
