Asset Overview

Gypsum wall panel relief: showing an eagle headed spirit, in the character of fertilizer of the date-tree, and the sacred tree. The panel carries an inscription written in cuneiform script. The panel forms part of a group showing king Ashurnasirpal II, flanked by eagle-headed protective spirits. This panel originally stood at the head of a room entirely panelled with eagle headed spirits and sacred trees. Dating to 865 BC-860 BC, found in the North West Palace, Room F (Panels 3-4) Nimrud Height: 2.17 metresWidth: 2.17 metres Standard inscription; a catalogue of royal titles, claims and achievements which was on all panels in the room.
