Asset Overview

Marble relief (Block XXVI) from the North frieze of the Parthenon. The frieze shows the procession of the Panathenaic festival, the commemoration of the birthday of the goddess Athena. This block represents a fragment of a chariot team and on the extreme right the pole that connected with the carriage. Two joining parts are in the Acropolis Museum, Athens. The human figures of a foot soldier and a charioteer were carved on the next block, Block XXVII. For more information on the North frieze see North frieze Block XLVII. The northern branch of the procession follows a similar pattern to the southern.
