Asset Overview

**Dimensions** Length: 13 cm Width: 10,5 cm Height: 40 cm This is the plaster statue in colour of Saint Barbara holding a mine lamp in her right hand and a tower on her left. Saint Barbara is the patron saint of miners. According to the legend, Barbara's father Dioscorus imprisoned Barbara in a tower as a punishment for her conversion to Christianity. But a lightning bolt split the walls of the tower and Barbara could escape. However, she was caught and sentenced to death. Father Dioscorus personally executed her death sentence with a sword, but he was punished immediately: he was struck by a lightning bolt and turned to ashes on the spot. Since the 17th century, Saint Barbara has been the patroness of people who have to deal with explosives. In Limburg, Saint Barbara has been worshipped since the end of First World War and her feast day is on December 4th. *3D model created by Akvile Valuntaite*
