Asset Overview

This partially damaged, larger-than-life-size portrait head from early late antiquity with laurel wreath and a broken out medallion/clipeus is possibly the representation of a late antique emperor. The head was found in Trasdorf (about 10 km east of the auxiliary fort of Augustianis/Traismauer) and probably belonged to the statutory equipment of a larger rural estate (villa). First recorded in 1931, the head originally belonged to a statue, maybe depicting the emperors/tetrarchs Maximianus, Constantius I Chlorus, or Constantinus I the Great. * 💽 Inv. no.: 1703 (formerly 131) * ⏳ Dating: c. 1st quarter 4th century AD * 📌 Location: [Archaeological Collection of the Municipality of Traismauer/Lower Austria (Stadt- und Heimatmuseum Traismauer)](https://www.google.com/maps/place/48%C2%B021'02.8%22N+15%C2%B044'34.7%22E/@48.3496169,15.7421597,18z) * 🛫 Origin: Trasdorf, Atzenbrugg, Tulln, Lower Austria (AUT) * 🧱 material: conglomerate * 🔗 DOI: [10.5281/zenodo.6299789](https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.6299789)
