This shell cup was made from a large lightning whelk and is still partially embedded in concreted shell midden. It dates to the preceramic Late Archaic period (ca. 5700-4600 BP) and was recovered from Panther Tracks, a pre-Columbian indigenous site in Seminole County, Florida. The artifact is currently curated at the Rollins College Archaeology Lab.
