Memorial within Prestongrange Churchyard. The memorial had an inscription which is now severly deteriorated. The inscription used to state - **Here lyeth the Remains of John Stuart of Phisgul a Galloway Gentleman and Cap. in Lassel's Regt a man of true bravery who died honourably in defence of his King and country and of Sacred and civil liberty, being barbarously murdered by four Highlaners near the end of the Battle fought in the field of Preston, on the 21st Sept. 1745.** (See Canmore online digital image SC1164673)
