Asset Overview
A rag doll – made by a child. It was given to the collection of the Tatra Museum by Maria Zychówna through the agency of Bronisław Piłsudski (perhaps the offeror sewed the toy herself) on 20 May 1912.
In the past, toys were rarely purchased for village children. Most often they were of a natural origin, and sometimes they were made by their parents, grandparents or older siblings. Also, they were often the work of children themselves.
This item on display is a small doll made of scraps of materials – probably pieces of clothing fabric. The base for the doll is a wad of white cloth stuffed with the clippings of other materials, which, after tying up, creates the head of the toy.
