Asset Overview

Material:[ Ceramic; Frit (stone paste).](https://www.getty.edu/vow/AATFullDisplay?find=frit&logic=AND¬e=&english=N&prev_page=1&subjectid=300343495) Accession [No: MG 130](https://www.huntmuseum.com/explore/item/fce20cbd-1235-3c95-a602-66e20e99def2/?s%3Dmg+130&pos=1). Current Location: [The Hunt Museum, Limerick](https://www.huntmuseum.com). This bowl has many characteristics of Raqqa ware (northern Syria). Its shape is conical with straight sides and rim. The ceramic body is stone paste or fritware. It is largely unglazed on the exterior. The alkaline turquoise glaze has been thickly applied and has dripped unevenly down the outside rim. The glaze is crazed and has become iridescent due to the salt content in the soil in which it was buried. The simple shape and decoration indicate this bowl was produced for daily use. 13th century AD
