Asset Overview

Reliquary shaped basilica, Rhineland, late 12th century, ivory. one of the long sides would be restored, Sayn Abbey (near Koblenz). Musée du Cinquantenaire (Brussels, Belgium). Made with ReMake and ReCap Pro from AutoDesk. This small ivory shrine is inspired by both the décor of goldsmiths' shrines and the great principles of Ottonian architecture. Christ, surrounded by the symbols of the Evangelists, sits on the main pinion. The Virgin and Child, accompanied by Saints Joseph and Simeon, occupies, meanwhile, the secondary pinion. The twelve apostles appear in bust under the arches of the side walls. At the corners of the main pinion, we see two warriors. Two other similar characters were to adorn the other gable. It could be representations of archangels. The roof that symbolizes the celestial vault is decorated with zodiac signs. For more updates, please consider to follow me on Twitter.
