Under the influence of the Crusades, the cult of the Cross will intensify in the Meuse region in the middle of the 12th century. The precious relics, brought back from the East, are then often preserved and presented to the faithful in triptychs: a type of reliquary with shutters of Byzantine origin. The holy relic was once kept in the double travserse cross, in the heart of the reliquary.
