Asset Overview

**Dimensions: ** * Height: 40cm * Width: 12,5cm * Depth: 9,5cm Painted replica of Saint Barbara's original plaster statuette displayed at the Netherlands Mijnmuseum in Heerlen. In this representation of the saint, three symbolic elements appear: the lamp, the palm branch and the tower. These elements echo her tragic story. She was imprisioned in a tower by her father due to her conversion to Christianity. She was able to escape when a lightning bolt split the walls of the tower. But, she was caught and died at the hands of her father, who was immediately punished by God with a lightning bolt. Since the 17th Century, she has been the patroness of people who had to deal with explosives and danger. This is why the miners took Saint Barbara as their patron saint, regardless of their religious beliefs. 3D model created by: Inés Flor García
