Replica Hafted Shell Hoe (Catalog # 2002:226.148), a part of the Michigan State University Museum's Archaeology Teaching Collection. Created by Toby Morrow, this tool is composed of a carved wooden handle and a large mussel shell attached by a strip of hide. In the past, tools like this were used by farmers to break up and move soil for the creation of garden beds, within which crops were grown.
