Asset Overview

This Iron Rivet Dolly will be used to fit the planking nails on the Sutton Hoo Ship. Riveting is a two-person job where the second person uses a heavy iron dolly placed against the head of the nail to brace against the force of the hammering from the other side of the planking. This dolly was crafted by Alex Pole at www.alexpoleironwork.com in Somerset. The burial ship is being reconstructed in The Longshed, Woodbridge, Suffolk, UK and is viewable by the public when work is taking place. Please visit the website for further details about the project and how you can get involved https://saxonship.org Laser scanning undertaken by Felix Pedrotti & Jack Pink from the University of Southampton
