Asset Overview

Two runestones in the churchyard at Jelling, the Viking capital of Harald Bluetooth, setup about AD965. The larger stone setup by Harald dedicated to his parents Gorm and Thyra and the smaller setup by his father dedicated to Thyra. The modelling of these two stones on a wet spring day was challenging as they are contained within protective glass, steel and cast bronze housings. further details can be gained from the Danish National Museum website https://en.natmus.dk/historical-knowledge/denmark/prehistoric-period-until-1050-ad/the-viking-age/the-monuments-at-jelling/the-jelling-stone/ The Jelling museum is not to be missed and has magnificent and innovative displays https://en.natmus.dk/museums-and-palaces/kongernes-jelling-home-of-the-viking-kings/
