Asset Overview

**Feronia**, according to Roman mythology, was a goddess of fertility, but also the protector of freed slaves and everything that comes out underground in the sunlight. We know its existence in Terracina from the sources and from a larger than life female head found depicting the Goddess Feronia. In his sanctuary in Terracina there was a seat intended for the "manumissio": meritorious slaves sat there and got up free. In Latin: “Bene Meriti Servi Sedeant Surgat Liberi”. The head found here is kept in the civic museum.
