Asset Overview

3D scan of a mount of a shoebill (*Balaeniceps rex*), that can stand up to 1.2 meters. Its name refers to the enormous beak that resembles a shoe. In Southern Sudan *B. rex* inhabits swamps and lakeshores where papyrus and reeds grow. This material is used to build their nests. This specimen of the rare African bird comes from the Bahr el Ghazal estuary in Sudan and was donated to the NHM Vienna in 1913.
