Asset Overview

During 2020 summer we excavated a very heavily fortified francoist position in the mountains of northern Madrid https://skfb.ly/6VUIG. Thanks to the interest of the Comunity of Madrid council of Culture and the Santa Maria de la Alameda hall, we are studying a new set of fortifications, this time in the republican side of the line. The position, named "El Zorrerón", represent the most typical defense complex for both sides (republican and nationalist) in the mountains. Poorbuild, scattered emplacements ofently squattering the previous animal enclosures and shepher's huts. The conditions for the soldiers were very poor, specially in winter, with little cover and wood. These characteristics made the incursions easy, like the one that happened in january 1939; when the republican guerrilla units of the 300 division advanced more than 6km into enemy territory occupied the village of Navas del Marques and then withdrew to their lines.
