Asset Overview

This "Star 6" Cast Iron Stove is a reconstruction of a stove found at the Sukeek's Cabin Site, a late 1800s site at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum that was the first home of Sukeek and her family after emancipation. Two stoves were present, a smaller one inside for heating and light cooking and a larger one outside. This Star 6 was probably the smaller one. Made by the American Stove and Hollow Ware Company of Philadelphia between 1869 and 1881 it cost $17.50; despite this relatively large cost, Sukeek's Cabin seems to have been designed from the start to use a stove rather than a fireplace. For more information on Sukeek and the site named after her, see our collection of related artifacts on SketchFab or visit [this finding aid](https://apps.jefpat.maryland.gov/neh/18CV426-%20Sukeek's%20Cabin%20Finding%20Aid.aspx). Made with photogrammetry and 3D modeling of missing sections. Special thanks to Rebecca Morehouse, Kirsti Uunila, Ed Chaney, and the Hagley Museum and Library for their assistance.
