A so called "stock knife" (or "stockkniv" in swedish). It once belonged to a "vindragare", which literally means "a puller of wine". The stock knife was their universal tool and used for everything from breaking up barrels to scrape paint and labels from bottles.
The "wine pullers" were a category of transport workers who once had the exclusive right to transport liquid goods in Stockholm. When their privileges were abolished, it became increasingly difficult for them to compete with the union-based port workers. The real blow was the state alcohol monopoly that was introduced in 1917, which meant that private wine imports almost completely ceased. They lasted until 1930 when they finally dissolved.
The knife has the inventory number SSM 43206 in the City Museum Collection.
