For an artist having a place to work is one of the most important things. This space is different for everyone. For me, as a digital artist, mainly it is anywhere my computer is, so usually my room. Most artists will have a studio space; this represents something different to every artist. I asked a few colleagues what a physical studio means to them.
Sara: The studio space for me has been a thinking space, particularly at the weekend when it became my own quiet space. I would break this quiet with playing a little Radiohead or some Leonard Cohen, both really conducive to creativity!
Being able to spread out my work and see it from a distance was incredibly useful. I could step back and consider ideas with no interruptions.
In contrast to this, when everyone was in the studio, I also enjoyed the busyness and vibe. So, a place and space of mixed emotion.
David: I like it because it is quiet and away from lots of students where I can work uninterrupted.
